Explore the music of ReGenesis

ReGenesis : ReMixed explores the music of ReGenesis. Hosted by music supervisor Andrea Higgins, ReGenesis : ReMixed focuses on the artists, the songs and the underscore heard on the show, and features exclusive interviews with some of the people involved in putting ReGenesis together.

Welcome to Season 2 of ReGenesis : ReMixed

ReGenesis is the critically acclaimed one-hour dramatic series produced by Shaftesbury Films that follows a brilliant team of scientists at the North American Biotechnology Advisory Commission (NorBAC) as they investigate global use and abuse of advanced biotechnology.

David Sandstrom (Peter Outerbridge), one of the world's foremost molecular biologists, and executive director Caroline Morrison (Maxim Roy), lead the NorBAC team as they research dangerous and threatening cases involving deadly new strains of HIV, mutant bacterium, bio-terrorism and atmospheric pollution that, if left unsolved, could wreak havoc throughout the world. As they struggle to get it right, Sandstrom and his team are often faced with frustrating setbacks, both scientific and political, that even the NorBAC organization may not be able to control.

Episode 8 : Blackout

Another exclusive interview with Tom Third, the composer for ReGenesis whose music has featured so prominently throughout the series. Andrea and Tom compare notes on some of the musical changes that have taken place since season 1, and replay some of their favourite musical moments from the show so far. Plus Tom gives us a behind-the-scenes description of some of the cutting-edge tools he uses to craft the unique sound of ReGenesis.

Episode 7 : Talk To Him

Mary Ancheta is a Vancouver-based singer/songwriter whose self-produced album mixes British-influenced soul music and live drum and bass, all added to songs with uplifting, anthemic choruses. Her track “All That We Are” is great loungy groove pop that plays in the background of Jill’s date with an old friend.

Andrea sits down with ReGenesis re-recording mixers John Gare and Al DeGraff, who talk about the overall sound design in Regenesis and how the show is put together.

Also featured is Dala, a talented female singer-songwriter duo whose track “Butterfly To Wasp” plays under Caroline’s nephew uttering one last, devastating message.

Episode 6 : Our Men In Havana

Sienna cleverly combines jazz, pop and folk sounds with smart, thought-provoking lyrics, and her song “Seasons Change” plays under a montage of scenes in which Caroline returns from the hospital while David mourns the death of his mother.

Eliana Cuevas incorporates jazz melodies and latin rhythms in “Luna Llena”, a song that plays at a Cuban beach party.

Finally “You Say You Love Me” by Swing Soniq is a bit of a departure musically from what we usually feature in the show, but the track provides great musical counterpoint to David arguing with his father and really helps lighten up the scene.

Talented duo Soma Sonic return in this episode of ReGenesis : ReMixed with “Could It Be Real”, a hip loungy track that plays in the background at David’s loft.

Also featured are Hush Hush, an eclectic foursome that combines electric guitars and cello played through effects pedals. Their bittersweet song “Misguided” plays under an emotional scene in which David receives devastating news about his mother.

Episode 4 : Dim and Dimmer

More Raised By Swans in this episode of ReGenesis : ReMixed. This time, it’s their track “Relentless” that sustains the emotion on screen across three very different scenes, weaving over and under the dialogue near the end of the episode.

We also catch up with ReGenesis executive producer and show creator Christina Jennings, who shares some of her favourite musical moments from the series, and lets us in on how the creative focus of ReGenesis has evolved in the second season.
